Whether you are just considering the idea of fasting or you are someone who fasts regularly, this is the best book we know of to put you on the right track. (The "fast-track", of course) It explains and defines a program which is not only very effective, but is also very safe as well. Stanley Burroughs proves that he was wise beyond his time with the wisdom he shares through this little book. For instance, he was aware that it was not bacteria and viruses that caused disease, but instead disease that caused bacteria and viruses -- an obvious and logical observation which still escapes the reasoning capabilities of most medically trained physicians even today. He notes that these micro organisms are, in fact, our essential friends rather than scapegoats for the results caused by our own irresponsible behaviors. Learned enough to know that lemons and limes are the richest source of minerals and vitamins, Burroughs was "inspired" to write this diet out in its complete form in the early '30's as a means of completely healing stomach ulcers in only ten days. It was soon apparent that it was also highly effective for general cleansing and weight management as well. The probable reason for its high rate of success is that it is easy to follow, tastes very appealing, completely curbs hunger, and supports the body's physical needs by providing adequate nourishment to enable a fast for from ten to forty days long. Added to its effectiveness is its simplicity. It consists of 1 part fresh lemon or lime juice, one part genuine maple syrup (dark amber grade A or B), 8 - 9 parts pure (distilled) water, and 1/10th part cayenne pepper. The book explains what vitamins and minerals are present in this mixture, why honey is not an acceptable substitute, how much to drink, complimentary substances, such as laxative teas and internal salt water bathing, what to expect, why to not take supplements during the fast, how to break the fast and recommendations for eating practices thereafter. He discusses protein needs, feeding your baby, water fasting, colonics, etc. -- an incredible amount of information clearly and concisely contained in a mere 50 pages. This book was recommended to me by Dr. Regan Golob - for which I will be eternally in his debt. The best way I know of beginning to repay him for his good council is by recommending it to everyone I can. Like you, for instance. Buy it!
